A private aerial-systems contractor has come forward claiming responsibility for the unusual drone sightings that alarmed residents across New Jersey in late 2024. The admission reportedly originated during the U.S. Army’s UAS and Launched Effects Summit at Fort Rucker in Alabama, where the company demonstrated a roughly 20-foot, four-winged aircraft with unconventional flight patterns. According to onward reporting, an employee addressed attendees with the remark “You remember that big UFO scare in New Jersey last year? Well, that was us.”
The craft was allegedly flown over the state in November 2024 under a confidential government contract, permitting the operator to conduct tests without public disclosure. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a flying object that appeared to “disappear” when it turned, describing an “uncanny-valley” effect and drawing comparisons to unidentified aerial phenomena.
Until now, the Federal Aviation Administration had attributed the sightings primarily to hobbyist drones and recreational pilots, but the contractor’s confession raises questions about the true nature of the operation and the transparency of government-contracted aerial testing in civilian airspace.
