Reddit was my final Social Media account. I've had it for a decade and used it to help people in programming subreddits. A few weeks ago, I was randomly banned by their AI bot (again) for no reason. The message claimed I "harassed" someone, but I'm not sure how answering a PHP or Magento question would be harassment. I think it confused me with another post in the thread where a bot was posting propaganda, so I responded to it and posted something like this:
"This is not the appropriate subreddit for this type of thing. Stop spamming."
I could appeal it, and they'd probably reinstate the account, but I don't see the point. Social media is a disease in our society. It is divisive, misleading, and has become downright dangerous. Not just for children, but for adults as well. I deleted my Facebook account in 2016 due to massive amounts of drama. I deleted my 13-year-old Twitter account for similar reasons in 2022.
Reddit used to be a fun place to interact with people. Now it seems full of swarms of AI bots spreading propaganda, and AI moderators banning people for imaginary offenses.
I used an autodeleter to purge all of my content from the site. That took several tries, but eventually thousands of posts were deleted. A strange thing happened when I went to delete my Reddit account. I tried in my browser and on my phone, but it failed.
I had to go to https://old.reddit.com. Apparently, the newer version of their site is full of bugs. If you're having trouble deleting your account, try the old site. It worked the first time for me.
While you're at it, delete all of your social media accounts. Your mental health will thank you.
