I'm working on an Atari 2600 game!
I'm working on a game for the Atari 2600! Not for them or anything awesome like that, but simply for the love of my first game system. I like working with Assembly and the Atari 2600 with it's 128 bytes of RAM, 4K cartridges, and limited Sprites is the perfect little platform to create small but wildly entertaining games.
The designers of the Atari 2600 selected an inexpensive cartridge interface that has one fewer address pins than the 13 allowed by the 6507, further reducing the already limited addressable memory from 8 KB (213 = 8,192) to 4 KB (212 = 4,096). This was believed to be sufficient as Combat is itself only 2 KB.
Making a playable program with so little to work with is an amazingly challenging and rewarding activity. I'll post more here as I progress!
